Bannock, First Nations Fried Bread (Canada)

- Flour — to buy400 g
- Baking powder — to buy2 c. à c.
- Salt — to buy1 pincée
- Butter — to buy40 g
- Milk — to buy200 ml
- Olive oil — to buypour la cuisson
- Maple syrup — to buypour servir
Preparation
Mix the flour, baking powder and salt in a large bowl.
Add the butter cut into small pieces and rub it into the flour with your fingertips until you get a sandy texture.
Pour in the milk little by little, mixing, until you get a soft dough that holds together without being sticky (add a little flour if needed).
Knead briefly for 1-2 minutes on a floured surface, then shape into one or several discs about 2 cm/0.8 in thick.
Heat a good amount of oil in a skillet over medium heat and cook the discs for 4-5 minutes per side, until golden and cooked through (lower the heat if they brown too fast).
Drain on paper towels and serve warm, plain or drizzled with maple syrup.
