- Garlic — to buy1 gousse
- Olive oil — to buy3 tbsp
Preparation
Pick a good country loaf with dense crumb, cut into thick slices about 1.5 cm: bread that's too soft will get soggy too fast.
Toast the bread slices in a toaster, under the oven grill or in a pan, until nicely crisp and lightly coloured.
Rub each still-warm slice with the garlic clove cut in half, going over the whole surface to flavour the crumb well.
Cut the ripe tomatoes in half and rub them over the bread too, pressing firmly so the pulp and juice soak into the crumb (the skin stays in your hand, discard it).
Drizzle generously with olive oil, add a pinch of salt and serve right away, while the bread is still warm and crisp.
