- Ground beef — to buy500g
- Bread — to buy2 slices
- Milk — to buy200ml
- Egg — to buy2
- Curry powder — to buy2 tbsp
- Raisins — to buy50g
- Confiture d'abricot — to buy2 tbsp
- Onion — to buy1
Preparation
Soak the bread slices in the milk for 5 minutes, then squeeze them out, keeping the soaking milk aside.
Cook the sliced onion in the oil for 5 minutes until translucent, add the ground meat and brown it, breaking it up well.
Add the curry powder, raisins, apricot jam and the squeezed, crumbled bread, mix well and simmer for 10 minutes over low heat.
Pour the mixture into a baking dish, pack the surface down well.
Beat the eggs with the reserved soaking milk, pour this over the meat — this layer is what forms bobotie's signature golden topping as it bakes.
Bake for 30-35 minutes at 180°C, until the top is set and golden, serve with turmeric yellow rice.
